It's always nice to feel the seasons change. This time of year inevitably brings back memories of preparing for fall sports. In high school and college it was multi-session days preparing for soccer. I remember training in the pre-season at the University of Hartford my freshman year. There was dorm construction that year so the opening of school was post-poned for several weeks. We were there several weeks early as well, so it was more than a month of being on campus and just training, training. Most schools started classes around labor day and went to single sessions, we didn't start until about the 21st and did triple and double sessions for most of that time. Best shape I've been in ever, hands down. But I probably wouldn't have run a marathon then and no ironman either. Different training for different goals, of course.
Anyhow, this moring I was out early an running with the dog, Zuzu, a big shepard/huskie/lab mix since it has cooled off considerably in the last two days. In the "dog" days of summer (pun intended), Zuzu is only good for a few miles, but when it is cool, he still has an hour in him. Not bad for a 10yr old... Easy run this morning (most of them will be easy this fall), working on some mechanics issues that have cropped up. Trying to fine tune the gait for the longer runs to avoid popping muscles this fall.
Tomorrow, a 90-120 minute run. Hope it stays cool....
Going long. MW
